PWS Minutes 6-28-06
Public Ways Safety Committee
Bolton, Massachusetts
June 28, 2006

Members present: Barbara Bing, Deborah Kellett, Beverly Mentzer, Cia Ochsenbein,
and Dan Senie
Members absent: Leslie Breeze, Don Cole,
Others present: none

Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m.

Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

Committee vacancy: We congratulated and thanked Bev for her 2 years of service plus contributing to the founding Main Street Safety Task Group. She notified selectmen, but we may want to remind Linda Day  to advertise the opening. In the meantime, we should recruit if we see any prospects.

Sidewalk extension:  Cia has a date with  Brian Peets of Flatley company for week of July 3 to get input of survey (many times he reschedules so let’s hope this one works).

Recent memo/requests to selectmen:  Barbara Bing finalized and sent the memo discussed in last meeting. She did not hear any comments from the preliminary copy sent to police and dpw before sending.

Stop signs at Wattaquadock/Clinton line:  we receved one anecdotal positive comment on new signs. Carol Bradlee noted it was easier to get in and out of her driveway due to slower traffic.

Moveable pedestrain signs:  Deb and others have noticed the moveables sometimes move to the side overnight, even though Andy Bagdonas repositioned them correctly a week ago. We should ask police why + who moves them and try to get all town employees to know the correct position. When they become too battered to be repaired, new ones should be ordered. Someone mentioned that Stow has ones that are bolted into pavement.

Reducing speed petition: Sgt Bagdonas completed the speed data near Manor/Harvard Road and we think he submitted it. We would like to organize some more speed data checkpoints with their method to see which spots in town are most worthy of the next petition, should this one be successful. Another accident at Manor/Harvard recently may help this case.

Future meetings. Without Bev, we need to reassign who will request notification of future meetings. We had planned to meet at Police conference room perhaps quarterly. Based on topics above, should one of our summer meetings be held there?  If we set it up, we should be sure we have quorum (next scheduled mtg 2 members are away).

Data base topic review: The remainder of the meeting was devoted to updating the database topic listing.  Stow has new LED school zone flashers that are very effective—something that  we may want to start our FY 08 budget request with.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

The next meeting is scheduled for 7:00 on July 12
